How it Works
 Speed
Track Challenge Packs is an innovative project-based learning
system designed to seamlessly integrate with virtually any career
and technology program. This tool helps students develop advanced
employability skills, especially those identified by the
SCANS report. While working together as a team, students utilize
the resources of the lab to accomplish a series of open-ended
challenges related to radio controlled car competitions. The package
provides three levels of challenges, each more advanced than the
previous.

Level One - This level consists of a series of
predefined challenges that guide students through a variety of
problem-solving activities specific to module titles and
resources typically found in a career and technology program.

Level Two - These predefined challenges are
designed for students working in independent teams representing
various career cluster work groups. These work groups represent
organizational divisions within a hypothetical racing team.

Level Three - An entire class or selected
students form a racing organization with various divisions
representing engineering, marketing, administration, etc. The
organization is responsible for preparing and improving a race
vehicle, raising money through sponsorships and the production
and sale of products and services, promoting the team through
advertising, and participating in competitions and fund raising
events.
It’s easy and inexpensive to get started with
Speed Track Challenge Packs. The key components are the 271 page
Instructor’s Guide and
Media Cruiser which can be purchased and used with any R/C
vehicle. Also available is a series of “Quick Start” packages which
include the Instructor’s Guide, Media Cruiser, an R/C vehicle, a
tool box, tools, a variety of spare parts, tires and wheels, and a
collection of helpful R/C maintenance and performance books.
The Instructor’s Guide provides a hard-copy of all
the procedures and student hand-outs necessary to implement
project-based learning. The Media Cruiser CD contains a digital copy
of the Instructor’s Guide, printable versions of all student
hand-outs, and a variety of presentations and videos.

Quick Start Packs
A single Quick Start Pack contains everything
you need to enhance your entire career and technology program with
the Speed
Track Challenge Packs project-based learning system. It
includes the Instructor’s Guide, Media Cruiser, hundreds of pages of
suggested projects and activities, videos, presentations, a 1/10
scale R/C car, and all the tools, accessories, and instructions you
need to get started. Simply choose a vehicle, and you’re ready to
go!

Stadium Truck
This is a very competitive truck right out of the box.
It is designed with outdoor off road racing in mind.
Available in electric or nitro version, this truck comes
fully assembled and painted, but is available in a kit
form as well. The nitro version of this vehicle has won
every world
championship since 1993. |

On-Road Sedan
Designed for paved tracks, this sedan is
lightning-fast on the straights and sticks like glue in
turns. Available in electric or nitro versions, this
model comes fully assembled and painted, but is
available in a kit form as well. |

On-Road Oval
Simpler in design than its sedan cousin, this car is
optimized for high-speed oval racetracks. This model is
available in electric only and requires assembly and
painting. A modified version of this car holds the speed
record of 111 mph (that’s real mph, not scale speed). |

Monster Truck
This popular selection is powerful, durable, and
capable of taking a real beating. It features 4WD,
2-speed transmission, and reverse (electric version). It
can be run on dirt or pavement with ease, and is
available in nitro or electric models. Comes fully
assembled and painted. |

Off-Road Buggy
Traditionally the most popular form of R/C racing,
1:10 scale buggies are designed for dirt tracks. This
electric buggy comes fully assembled and painted but is
available in a kit form also. A box stock version of
this buggy won the world championship when it was
released. |
