Green
Construction CPU
Introduction
The Green Construction CPU
involves the study of various design and construction methods, as
they relate to architecture and energy-efficiency, used to create
"green" structures. Students discover passive heating and cooling
techniques, the relationship between a home and its natural
environment, various active technologies which aide a home in
becoming self-sustaining, and methods homeowners can employ to take
advantage of natural environments while conserving resources and
avoiding environmental disadvantages.
By completing this CPU, students will
understand the myriad approaches used to design, construct, or
reformat a pre-existing home into a "green" home. Students will be
able to discuss the key objectives to green construction, its
benefits to the homeowner and the environment, and the methods of
passive and active green technology implemented to achieve a green
structure. Having been introduced to the scope of green construction
in the context of eco-design and natural capitalism, students will
recognize green construction as one front in a larger green campaign
to reduce the use of fossil fuels and promote conservation
worldwide.
