Without green plants, life
could not exist. Plants supply the earths ecosystem with the necessary oxygen to
sustain life. In return, while humans and other animals use this oxygen, they supply
carbon dioxide to plants. Plants also serve as a vital link in the food chain.
The Plant Science PAC
allows
students to explore the world of plants as they discover their many important uses. In
order to observe plant development, students conduct their own experiments.
Under every good plant there is a strong
root. Through hands-on applications and observations, students discover
how the root system works, the stem’s role as a transport system, and
the many parts and functions of leaves. Students will begin learning to
identify different types of plants just by looking at their
leaves. Also, using a soil test kit, students will be able to
test soil samples for pH and study its effect on plants.
Everyone enjoys the beauty
and fragrance of flowers. As beautiful as they are, their main function is propagation.
Students gain an understanding of flowers and their major role in the reproduction of
their species.
Students study the different categories of plants
and how they get their names. They explore plant cells and how they are constructed,
and study the physiology covering
photosynthesis, respiration, and transpiration. They also conduct chemical equations.
