Landscape Design PAC
Introduction
From
rich farmland to grand mountains and seascapes, America has a very
diverse and dynamic landscape. This diversity of landform, along
with the individual use and needs of each location, sets up the
framework for landscape design. Landscape design is a combination of
art and science. A landscape designer's job is to create an
environment that is pleasing to the client while working with
different environmental influences.
In the Landscape Design PAC, students
utilize traditional as well as computerized drawing methods to
explore the basics of landscape design. They begin by analyzing a
sample landscape in order to complete a computerized landscape
drawing. Students plant seeds and properly treat the soil, so that
the seeds bloom into beautiful flowers. Further study of types of
flowers and their blooming tendencies allows students to determine
appropriate flower choices for different regions.
Hands-on activities involving various landscaping
tools enable students to obtain experience in drawing, soil testing,
measuring, and installing basic landscapes. This PAC is a great
enhancement to any agricultural program and provides a practical way
for students to research careers in landscaping.
